Cannot retrieve license key: SSL connect error

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.0 for Linux

Symptoms

Parallels Plesk Panel version 9.x is running on the server.

The error "SSL connect error" is shown when trying to retrieve the Plesk license key through Home -> License Management -> Retrieve Keys:

    Key Update Status
SSL connect error

Also, the following error is generated when trying to connect to port 5224 of Parallels Key Administrator with curl:

~# curl -k https://ka.plesk.com:5224
curl: (35) error:1406D0CB:SSL routines:GET_SERVER_HELLO:peer error no cipher
~#

What is causing the problem?

Cause

The problem is caused by libcurl 7.18.2-8 or a newer version of libcurl.

~# dpkg -l | grep curl

The connection is correct if specifying version 3 manually:

~# curl -k https://ka.plesk.com:5224 --sslv3
<html><head><title>Apache Tomcat/6.0.18 - Error report</title><style><!--H1 {font-family:Tahoma,Arial,sans-serif;color:white;background-color:#525D76;font-size:22px;} H2 {font-family:Tahoma,Arial,sans-serif;color:white;background-color:#525D76;font-size:16px;} H3 {font-family:Tahoma,Arial,sans-serif;color:white;background-color:#525D76;font-size:14px;} BODY {font-family:Tahoma,Arial,sans-serif;color:black;background-color:white;} B {font-family:Tahoma,Arial,sans-serif;color:white;background-color:#525D76;} P {font-family:Tahoma,Arial,sans-serif;background:white;color:black;font-size:12px;}A {color : black;}A.name {color: black;}HR {color : #525D76;}--></style> </head><body><h1>HTTP Status 403 - Only PKP XML-RPC requests to /xmlrpc are allowed on the port 5224</h1><HR size="1" noshade="noshade"><p><b>type</b> Status report</p><p><b>message</b> <u>Only PKP XML-RPC requests to /xmlrpc are allowed on the port 5224</u></p><p><b>description</b> <u>Access to the specified resource (Only PKP XML-RPC requests to /xmlrpc are allowed on the port 5224) has been forbidden.</u></p><HR size="1" noshade="noshade"><h3>Apache Tomcat/6.0.18</h3></body></html>

The connection fails with version 2, which is used by default:

~# curl -k https://ka.plesk.com:5224 -sslv2
curl: (35) error:1406D0CB:SSL routines:GET_SERVER_HELLO:peer error no cipher
~#

Resolution

Please use one of the following workarounds:

  • Downgrade libcurl to version 7.15.5-1etch1.

  • Download and install the new version of sw-cp-server. It can be applied for Debian 5.0 or Suse 11. The appropriate version of sw-cp-server can be found in these attachments:

Debian 5.0 amd64
Debian 5.0 i386
Suse 11.1 x86\_64
SuSe 11.1 i586

If you are using another Linux distribution and downgrading is not suitable for you, please contact the support department .
