All plesk users have the same uid 10000

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 10.x for Linux
  • Plesk 11.x for Linux
  • Plesk 12.0 for Linux

Symptoms

When adding a new subscription and associated customer, all of the local accounts created have the same UID (10000) in ' /etc/passwd '

# cat /etc/passwd
user1:x:10000:503::/var/www/vhosts/domain.tld:/bin/false
user2:x:10000:503::/var/www/vhosts/dom.tld:/bin/false

UID_MAX in /etc/login.defs is less than 10000, for example:

# grep UID_MAX /etc/login.defs
UID_MAX 5000

Cause

To create users Plesk executes system utility useradd with UID_MIN=10000 so as UID_MAX =< 10000 it was causing useradd to produce an error and add all users with uid 10000. UID_MIN and UID_MAX values define the range of user IDs used for the creation of regular users by the useradd utility.

Resolution

Set UID_MAX value in /etc/login.defs larger than 12000.
