Question
How to configure a domain to use an external mail server in Plesk?
Answer
-
Go to Domains > example.com > Mail Settings and disable the option Activate mail service on this domain. Click OK.
-
Go to Domains > example.com > DNS Settings and click on a MX record:
-
Set an external mail server in the Mail exchange server field.
-
Set it to a high priority.
Note: If the DNS zone of a domain is hosted on an external DNS server, contact administrator of the DNS server and ask them to create MX record and point it to an external mail server.
-
-
Click OK and then Update.

This instrution is not finished as I understand it. When I set it up as described I still miss the part where I can configure the Mail in Plesk whereby I could accept incomming Mails from an another domain.
Else I get a
554 5.7.1 <e-mail-adress>:Relay access denied
Would be happy If you could explain it to the end.
Kind regards Kirill
Hi there Kirill Häuptli
Thanks for the input.
This instruction is complete - once MX record points to an external mail server and mail service is disabled for a domain, Plesk stops managing mail for this domain in any way.
Hi Kuzma
I have setup 2 external mx record for emails but they are still being sent through the internal mail server, do you know if I need to change other setting too?
Thanks
Ben
