How to change DNS server in domain SOA record

Applicable to:

  • Plesk for Windows
  • Plesk for Linux

Question

How to change DNS server SOA record of a particlular domain?

Answer

Currently, Plesk generates SOA records automatically with the first NS record added. There is no any functionality to select another name server directly.

To set the desired NS record as name server in SOA record, it's needed to apply following steps:

  1. Add the desired primary NS record and A record for added NS server.

  2. Remove all NS records except desired NS server. It will generate SOA record with the desired name server.

  3. Add the name servers back.

These instructions do not work with Onyx.  When deleting all NS records it provides the message, "Unable to delete the record: Domain has no NS DNS record."
