AWStats not working

Symptoms

Statistics does not calculate automatically for domain.

Cause

IIS log contains a several thousand of records with a lot of '\\0' symbols. A chunk of IIS log for domain:

2012-11-15 11:31:20 W3SVC31339 DSVR014427 77.68.107.67 GET /images/logos/logo-Garvalin-2009.jpg - 80 - 86.167.86.176 HTTP/1.1 Mozilla/5.0+(Macintosh;+Intel+Mac+OS+X+10_7_4)+AppleWebKit/534.56.5+(KHTML,+like+Gecko)+Version/5.1.6+Safari/534.56.5 - http: [... a lot of \\0 symbols ...] 694 69

2012-11-17 08:58:16 W3SVC31339 DSVR014427 77.68.107.67 GET /images/bg.png - 80 - 86.22.177.208 HTTP/1.1 Mozilla/5.0+(Macintosh;+Intel+Mac+OS+X [... a lot of \\0 symbols ...] 8 W3SVC31339 DSVR014427 77.68.107.67 GET /images/logos/logo-Garvalin-2009.jpg - 80 - 86.173.146.23 HTTP/1.1 Mozilla/5.0+(compatible;+MSIE+9.0;+Windows+NT+6.1;+WOW64;+Trident/5.0) - http://www.doamin.tld/ www.doamin.tld 200 0 0 5139 344 94

2012-11-20 04:12:53 W3SVC31339 DSVR014427 77.68.107.67 GET /robots.txt - 80 - 178.154.243.118 HTTP/1.1 Mozilla/5.0+(compatible;+YandexBot/3.0;++http://doamin.tld/bots) - - www.doamin.tld [... a lot of \\0 symbols ...] .0+(Macintosh;+Intel+Mac+OS+X+10_6_8)+AppleWebKit/534.55.3+(KHTML,+like+Gecko)+Version/5.1.5+Safari/534.55.3 - http://www.doamin.tld/ www.doamin.tld 200 0 0 4141 380 43

The records above contains a lot of '\\0' symbols. You can see it in Notepad with Word Wrap switched. Utility 'statistics.exe' interprets it as the end of file.

Also it isn't good to use huge IIS logs rotation like 200MB.It is recommended about 10MB or daily log rotation.

Resolution

To fix the issue remove blank records from log and recalculate statistics with command line:

C:\\plesk\\admin\\bin>statistics.exe --process-domains=domain.tld --verbose

Use Notepad with Word Wrap to find these records in IIS log.
