Error changing IP address for a subscription: Unable to restore the DNS zone Incorrect DNS record values were specified

Symptoms

Unable to change an IP address for a subscription:

Error: Unable to restore the DNS zone: an error occurred while adding the <ip> IN none example.com. record: Incorrect DNS record values were specified.

or

Unable to update DNS settings for a domain:

# plesk sbin dnsmng --update example.com
dnsmng: Unable to update reverse lookup zone

The following error is shown in /var/log/plesk/panel.log :

Unable to add the 10.10.10.10 IN none example.com. record to zone example.com: Incorrect DNS record values were specified.

There is opt option is missing for a PTR record:

mysql> SELECT id,displayVal,opt FROM `dns_recs` WHERE `type`='PTR' AND `opt` <> '24';
+------+--------------------+-----+
| id | displayVal | opt |
+------+--------------------+-----+
| 21 | example.com. | |

Cause

Database inconsistency

Resolution

Add the missing option by the following steps:

  1. Back up Plesk database according to instructions here

  2. Execute the following query to add missing options:

    mysql> UPDATE `dns_recs` SET `opt` = '24' WHERE `type`='PTR' AND `opt` <> '24';
