How does Plesk start/stop services? Does Plesk control the /etc/rc.local file? How is it possible to configure services starting on the server boot?

Symptoms

How does Parallels Plesk Panel start/stop services? Does Plesk control the /etc/rc.local file? How is it possible to configure services starting on the server boot?

Resolution

Plesk uses standard services' start/stop scripts from /etc/init.d/ and doesn't manage rc.local .

If you want to change start up settings for any service you can use the chkconfig utility. You can see all services and their settings running from the shell:

/sbin/chkconfig --list

For example, to disable tomcat to start on runlevel 3:

/sbin/chkconfig --level 3 tomcat4 off

Default runlevel can be found with:

grep initdefault /etc/inittab
