Postfix can not be started: mailmng-service failed: Service /etc/init.d/pc-remote failed to start - could not open session

Symptoms

Unable to start Postfix via Plesk interface.

/usr/local/psa/admin/logs/panel.log contains the following error:

mailmng-service failed: Service /etc/init.d/pc-remote failed to start

pc-remote service fails to start:

# /etc/init.d/pc-remote start
Starting psa-pc-remote: could not open session
[FAILED]

The result of the following command will show could not open session error

# runuser -s /bin/bash postfix -c 'ulimit -s unlimited >/dev/null 2>&1 ; /usr/lib64/plesk-9.0/psa-pc-remote -p inet:test@127.0.0.1'
could not open session

Cause

Low nofile limit is set up for postfix user in /etc/security/limits.conf .

Resolution

  1. Check the nofile limit:

    # grep nofile /etc/security/limits.conf
    * soft nofile 500000
    * hard nofile 5000000

    ' * ' is a wildcard that means all users.

  2. Comment the lines with ' * ':

    # grep nofile /etc/security/limits.conf
    #* soft nofile 500000
    #* hard nofile 5000000
  3. Start pc-remote:

    # /etc/init.d/pc-remote start
    Starting psa-pc-remote: [ OK ]
