Backup directory takes more disk space than it is shown under Plesk - Tools & Settings - Backup Manager

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.5 for Linux
  • Plesk 12.0 for Linux

Question

Why does backup directory take more disk space than it is shown in Plesk - Tools & Settings - Backup Manager ?

Answer

The backup directory (by default it is " /var/lib/psa/dumps ") contains both server-wide backups and domain level backups. In other words, if you create a backup under Plesk - Subscriptions - example.com - Websites & Domains - Backup Manager , you will not see this backup under Tools & Settings - Backup Manager , but this backup will be located in " /var/lib/psa/dumps/domains/example.com " or " /var/lib/psa/dumps/clients/client_name/domains/example.com ".

Moreover, backup directory contains daily and pre-upgrade dumps of Plesk databases.
