Cause

Option ProxyCommand is set in /etc/ssh/ssh_config configuration file.

Resolution

To fix this issue comment out the ProxyCommand line in the /etc/ssh/ssh_config file:

# grep Proxy /etc/ssh/ssh_config
...
#ProxyCommand ssh -q -W %h:%p gateway.example.com
...

Reload ssh after applying changes:

# /etc/init.d/ssh reload
