Unable to start psa sevice: [pool plesk] cannot get uid for user sw-cp-server

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.5 for Linux
  • Plesk 12.0 for Linux

Symptoms

Plesk is not accessible.

Following error appears when starting Plesk ( psa service):

# service psa start
Starting psa... Starting sw-engine-fpm:
ERROR: [pool plesk] cannot get uid for user 'sw-cp-server': Success (0)
ERROR: FPM initialization failed
[FAILED]
failed
Starting xinetd service... done
Starting sw-cp-server service... failed
Starting mysqld service... failed
Starting named service... failed
Starting postgresql service... failed
Starting spamassassin service... done
Plesk: Starting Mail Server... already started
Starting psa... Starting sw-engine-fpm:
ERROR: [pool plesk] cannot get uid for user 'sw-cp-server': Success (0)
ERROR: FPM initialization failed
[FAILED]
failed

Cause

User sw-cp-server is missing in /etc/passwd :

Resolution

Reinstall sw-cp-server package.

  1. Find the package version corresponding to your version of Plesk and OS at http://autoinstall.plesk.com and download it.

  2. Install downloaded package:

    # rpm -Uhv --force sw-cp-server-YOUR_VERSION.rpm --force
  3. Start psa service:

    # /etc/init.d/psa start
    Starting psa... Starting sw-engine-fpm: [ OK ]
    done
    Starting xinetd service... done
    Starting sw-cp-server service... done
    Starting mysqld service... done
    Starting named service... done
    Starting postgresql service... done
    Starting spamassassin service... done
    Plesk: Starting Mail Server... already started
    Starting psa... Starting sw-engine-fpm:
    done
