mysqldump: unknown option '--max_allowed_packet 512M'

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.5 for Linux
  • Plesk 11.0 for Linux

Symptoms

  1. An attempt to create database dump fails with the following error:

    mysqldump: unknown option '--max_allowed_packet 512M'
  2. The /etc/my.cnf has the following option:

    [mysqldump]
    max_allowed_packet 512M

Cause

Incorrect syntax in /etc/my.cnf , the option name and the value should be separated with '=' symbol.

Resolution

  1. Edit /etc/my.cnf , you can use the

    vi /etc/my.cnf

    command for example. The max_allowed_packet requires '=' symbol before size number, so it should look like:

    [mysqldump]
    max_allowed_packet=512M
  2. Restart mysql :

    service mysql restart
