Apache crashes: scoreboard is full, not at MaxRequestWorkers

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.5 for Linux
  • Plesk Onyx for Linux

Symptoms

  1. Apache crashes with the following error in /var/log/apache2/error.log :

[mpm_event:error] [pid 22565:tid 140163371042688] AH00485: scoreboard is full, not at MaxRequestWorkers
  2. Event MPM mode is used by Apache.

Cause

This is Apache bug with ID #53555 which is already fixed in Apache 2.4.25.

Resolution

As a workaround the following steps can be performed:

  1. Change MPM mode from Event to Prefork under Tools & Settings > Apache Web Server

  2. Change reload action to restart in corresponding files under /etc/logrotate.d/ directory:

    # grep "reload" /etc/logrotate.d/*
  3. Modify the configuration settings of mpm_event module at /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/mpm_event.conf . For example, the value of MaxRequestWorkers can be increased. Then restart Apache:

    # service httpd restart

If none of the provided steps did no help, check the website code. First of all, it should be checked that there are no any looped functions.
