Plesk File Manager - Unable to open the directory: Failed to open the file: permission denied.

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.5 for Linux

Symptoms

I have a secondary hard drive that I use to map to one of the vhosts's folder through an OS symbolic link. The folder is actually out of webspace.

The website is working, application can read and write to the linked folders but Plesk's File Manager can not explore the folder.

The folder is visible in the File Manager but when clicked on symlink I get the error:

Unable to open the directory: Failed to open the file: permission denied.

No errors is shown in the ' /var/log/plesk/panel.log ' file:

Cause

Plesk File Manager does not support symlinks that are out of webspace.

Resolution

Instead of symbolic link, you can use mount --bind to mount remote folder inside a webspace.
