Parallels Premium Outgoing Antispam is not starting

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.5 for Linux
  • Plesk 11.x for Linux
  • Plesk 12.0 for Linux

Symptoms

Parallels Premium Outgoing Antispam is not starting on Debian/Ubuntu server with Postfix MTA. Error in Plesk interface is displayed:

Protection : Not active. There are some problems that prevent the service from being started.

Postfix milter configuration contains the following:

~# grep milter /etc/postfix/main.cf
smtpd_milters = inet:localhost:12768 unix:/ctmilter/ctmilter.sock
non_smtpd_milters = inet:localhost:12768 unix:/ctmilter/ctmilter.sock

and ctmilter_initd service fails to start:

~# /etc/init.d/ctmilter_initd start
ERROR: Process ID list syntax error.
Starting ctmilter deamon
running ctmilter from /opt/ctch/ct-milter
User doesn't exists: postfix
chown: cannot access `/var/spool/postfix/ctmilter/ctmilter.sock': No such file or directory

Resolution

  1. Edit /etc/nssswitch.conf , change compat to files :

    passwd:         files
    group: files
    shadow: files
  2. If directory /var/spool/postfix/ctmilter doesn't exists, create it:

    ~# mkdir /var/spool/postfix/ctmilter
    ~# chmod 755 /var/spool/postfix/ctmilter
  3. Edit /etc/postfix/main.cf and change:

    smtpd_milters = inet:localhost:12768 unix var/spool/postfix/ctmilter/ctmilter.sock
    non_smtpd_milters = inet:localhost:12768 unix var/spool/postfix/ctmilter/ctmilter.sock

    to:

    smtpd_milters = inet:localhost:12768, unix:/var/spool/postfix/ctmilter/ctmilter.sock
    non_smtpd_milters = inet:localhost:12768, unix:/var/spool/postfix/ctmilter/ctmilter.sock

Cause

ctmilter settings were not configured properly, most probably it was installed together with another anti-spam solution.
