Outgoing mail limits do not work for php scripts

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.5 for Linux

Symptoms

When configuring outgoing mail controls for Plesk at a subscription level, the outgoing mail limits are not enforced.

Therefore, scripts that are using php's mail function can be executed countless amounts of times in spite of properly configured outbound limitations.

Cause

Allow users and scripts to use Sendmail option enabled server-wide in Tools & Settings > Mail Server Settings

If it is enabled, scripts are allowed to use sendmail utility (php mail function uses sendmail binary) even if the limits for a mailbox and domain are exceeded.

Resolution

Deselect the aforementioned checkbox in Tools & Settings > Mail Server Settings .
