HTTP Error occurs while uploading big files to WordPress.

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.5 for Linux
  • Plesk Onyx for Linux

Symptoms

  • FastCGI is in the enabled state
  • HTTP Error occurs while uploading file more than 200 mb.

  • Nginx returns the following error in the proxy_error_log :

    /var/www/vhosts/system/domain.tld/logs/proxy_error_log:
    2016/03/11 18:45:35 [error] 43719#0: *3423 upstream prematurely closed connection while reading response header from upstream, client: 91.204.25.4, server: domain.tld, request: "POST /wp-admin/async-upload.php HTTP/1.1", upstream: "https://70.35.204.239:7081/wp-admin/async-upload.php", host: "domain.tld", referrer: "https://domain.tld/media-new.php"
  • The following can be found in the error.log :

    /var/www/vhosts/system/domain.tld/logs/error_log:
    [Fri Mar 11 18:45:35.776732 2016] [core:notice] [pid 43659] AH00052: child pid 43843 exit signal Segmentation fault (11)

Cause

Apache crashes on the apr_bucket_free procedure.

Resolution

OR

  • Switch the handler from FastCGI to PHP FPM serverd by nginx.
