Duplicate sources.list entry.

Applicable to:

  • Plesk for Linux

Symptoms

I get an warning message during Plesk installation on Debian:

W: Duplicate sources.list entry http://security.debian.org/ wheezy/updates/main amd64 Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/security.debian.org_dists_wheezy_updates_main_binary-amd64_Packages)
W: Duplicate sources.list entry http://security.debian.org/ wheezy/updates/main i386 Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/security.debian.org_dists_wheezy_updates_main_binary-i386_Packages)

Cause

Incorrect repository configuration in /etc/apt/sources.list file.

Resolution

If you run Debian or Ubuntu, add updates and security repositories to your apt (package manager) configuration.Make sure that there is no duplicated lines.

Example of properly configured sources list:

deb http://ftp.au.debian.org/debian stable main contrib
deb-src http://ftp.au.debian.org/debian stable main contrib

deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ wheezy-updates main contrib
deb-src http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ wheezy-updates main contrib

deb http://security.debian.org/ wheezy/updates main contrib
deb-src http://security.debian.org/ wheezy/updates main contrib

Do not forget to run "apt-get update" to apply changes.

In case when Plesk installer warns regarding Plesk's repositories

W: Duplicate sources.list entry http://autoinstall.plesk.com/debian/PMM_0.1.10/ jessie/all amd64 Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/autoinstall.plesk.com_debian_PMM%5f0.1.10_dists_jessie_all_binary-amd64_Packages)

it might be necessary to move away duplicating .list file, since similar file is created by Plesk autoinstaller every time it runs.

# mv /etc/apt/sources.list.d/plesk-migrator.list /root
