CMS cannot be installed: Non-zero exit status returned by script. process /usr/bin/php killed by signal 1

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.5 for Linux

Symptoms

Unable to install APS application (Joomla, Drupal), the following error is shown in Plesk:

Non-zero exit status returned by script. Output stream: 'waitpid(192596)=192596: process '/usr/bin/php' killed by signal 1
Error stream: 'waitpid(192596)=192596: process '/usr/bin/php' killed by signal 1

Or

Error: The following error has occurred during the installation of application: Installation of joomla at http://example.com/ failed. Non-zero exit status returned by script.

Cause

Non-supported default PHP configuration.

Resolution

Check if there a mbstring.func_overload parameter is defined in global PHP configuration in Plesk > Tools & Settings > PHP Settings > PHP version in use > php.ini .

Make sure that mbstring.func_overload is defined like below:

;mbstring.func_overload = 0

func_overload setting is not recommended to be enabled server-wide. If needed, this parameter can be specified under domain PHP settings in Plesk > Subscriptions > example.com > PHP Settings > Additional configuration directives .
