Plesk License cannot be installed on Plesk running inside VM

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 10.4 for Windows
  • Plesk 10.4 for Linux
  • Plesk 11.0 for Windows
  • Plesk 11.0 for Linux

Installing the Parallels Plesk Panel license key on a Plesk installation inside a virtual machine running on a Parallels Server Bare Metal or Parallels Cloud Server host fails with this error:

Error: The license key is invalid. In order to use the Panel, please obtain and install a new valid license key. The license key is intended only for use with Parallels Panel operating inside the following virtual environments: Parallels Virtuozzo Containers, OpenVZ, VMWare, Microsoft Hyper-V, Xen, KVM.

The problem has been fixed in Micro-Update #27 for Parallels Plesk Panel 11.0.9. Please consider installing the update.

Parallels Plesk Panel 10.4.4 may be still affected. The Parallels Plesk Service Team is looking into the possibility of issuing a Micro-Update for Plesk 10 to address this issue.

As workaround following instructions may be used:

  1. Upgrade to Parallels Plesk Panel 11.0.9 with the latest Micro-Updates installed.

  2. Use of the Plesk license is not limited by the type of virtual environment.
