This article provides instructions about how to upgrade MySQL 5.5 to 5.6/5.7 or MariaDB 5.5 to 10.0/10.1/10.2 on Linux.

Warning: Direct upgrade from MySQL 5.1 to MySQL 5.6/5.7 will break tables structure.
MySQL upgrade should be performed via SSH connection, using the command-line user interface, on behalf of root user. If you do not have SSH server access contact service provider or server administrator.
Perform MySQL upgrade at your own risk. It is strongly recommended to create a server disk snapshot (full backup) before the upgrade.
MySQL will not be upgraded on CentOS/RHEL-based operating systems if it was installed from the Webtatic Yum repository:
# rpm -qa | grep -i mysql
