Question

What data is backed up within server configuration backup?

Answer

Server configuration backup contains list of clients, domains, installed components and their configuration, permissions. Since backup is stored as a non-encrypted *.xml file, it is possible to open it to get a full list of stored data:

  1. Discover backup location:

    # grep -i dump /etc/psa/psa.conf
    DUMP_D /var/lib/psa/dumps
    DUMP_TMP_D /tmp
  2. Discover *.xml file name:

    ls -lt /var/lib/psa/dumps | head -n5

    total 1648-rw------- 1 root root 95879 Nov 11 19:08 backup_info_1511111907.xml-rw-r----- 1 root root 16095 Nov 11 19:08 backup_fail2ban_1511111907.tgz-rw------- 1 root root 95879 Nov 11 18:52 backup_info_1511111851.xmldrwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Nov 11 18:52 domains

  3. Get the list of needed objects:

    egrep -e'domain|database|permission' /var/lib/psa/dumps/domains/example.com/backup_info_1511111907.xml | head -n10

    outgoing_messages_domain_limit permissionsId
