Unable to access a file in File Manager: Access denied

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.5 for Windows
  • Plesk Onyx for Windows

Symptoms

Unable to access file in File Manager with the following error:

Unable to open the directory: Unable to find the directory C:\Inetpub\vhosts\example.com\httpdocs: Access denied

"Change Permissions" option shows all the boxes disabled in File Manager

Manually added permissions in Security tab are deleted after running:

"%plesk_cli%\\repair.exe" --repair-webspace-security -webspace-name example.com

Cause

Incorrect security settings for file system objects and accounts in %plesk_vhosts%example.com\\.plesk\\.Security file.

Resolution

  1. Rename the .Security file to .Security.bak in %plesk_vhosts%example.com\\.plesk

  2. Re-create Security file:

    "%plesk_cli%\\repair.exe" --repair-webspace-security -webspace-name example.com
