How to change the mail queue life time for Postfix?

Symptoms

How to change the mail queue life time for Postfix? Sometimes mails are stuck in the mail queue for 5 days and fill up the queue.

Resolution

By default, Postfix, like most mailservers, will keep trying to deliver mail for 5 days. It is the default behavior of Postfix, and depends on parameter ' maximal_queue_lifetime ' configured in Postfix, which can be obtained for your server by the following command:

# postconf -d | grep maximal_queue_lifetime
maximal_queue_lifetime = 5d

In case value should be changed execute the following command:

# postconf -e 'maximal_queue_lifetime = 1d'
