Backup fails "/bin/tar: You may not specify more than one `-Acdtrux' option"

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 11.x for Linux
  • Plesk 12.0 for Linux

Symptoms

Backup finishes with warning:

Warning: hosting "domain.tld"

Failed to pack files Parallelstest_domain.tld_user-data_1409022051 in /var/lib/psa/dumps/domains/domain.tld [ 146836627456 bytes free of 264221454336 bytes total on mount point 0]

Warning: hosting "domain.tld"

/bin/tar: You may not specify more than one `-Acdtrux' option
Try `/bin/tar --help' or `/bin/tar --usage' for more information.

Cause

Plesk cannot backup files with name starts with dash symbol "-" like /root/-filename

This behavior has been considered as software issue #PPPM-1925 .

Resolution

Install Plesk 12.0.18 MU#25 update, where the issue is fixed. If you have previous Plesk version, below is the workaround:

  1. Find files with dash "-" as first symbol in filename:

    ~# find /var/www/vhosts/domain.tld/ -name '-*'
    /var/www/vhosts/domain.tld/-t
  2. Rename this file:

    mv /var/www/vhosts/domain.tld/-t /var/www/vhosts/domain.tld/t
