Unable to change message size limit: "message size limit (X) must not be greater than the mailbox size limit (Y)"

Symptoms

  1. Attempt to change Maximum message size limit on Tools & Settings > Mail Server Settings fails with the following error:

    ERROR: PleskUtilException

    message size limit (25600000) must not be greater than the mailbox size limit(20480000)
  2. Postfix configuration parameter mailbox_size_limit is set to a non-zero value:

    [root@pp11 ~]# postconf mailbox_size_limit
    mailbox_size_limit = 20480000

Cause

Message size cannot be greater than the value of mailbox_size_limit parameter defined in Postfix configuration.

Resolution

Login into the server by SSH and reset Postfix parameter mailbox_size_limit to zero, thus removing the limit:

postconf -e mailbox_size_limit=0

By default this parameter should be set to zero, which means no limitations on mailbox size from the Postfix side. In Plesk mailbox size limitations are controlled by Plesk mail handlers.
