Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.5 for Linux
  • Plesk 12.0 for Windows
  • Plesk 12.0 for Linux
  • Plesk 12.5 for Windows

Note: This article has the reference to the issue with the fix available:

  • #PPPM-4442 "WordPress installs put into maintenance mode using a WordPress plugin could no longer be managed via the WordPress Toolkit."
    Fixed in:
Please consider updating your server:

Symptoms

When accessing WordPress instance at Home > Domains > example.com > My CMS the following error appears:

Decoding failed: Syntax error

At Plesk > WordPress the instance is shown as /httpdocs and is not accessible.

Cause

There are WordPress plugins that are used to enable/disable website offline mode. If website offline mode is enabled, regular visitors of such website will see a maintenance mode page, while an admin can make changes to it.

If such plugin is enabled in the WordPress instance, WordPress Toolkit will not recognize it displaying the error:

Decoding failed: Syntax error

Such behaviour is considered as Plesk internal issue with ID #PPPM-4442 , that was fixed in Plesk Onyx.

Resolution

Upgrade to the latest Plesk version .
