Cannot create domain or switch to SmarterMail: The maximum number of domains allowed has been reached

Symptoms

  • Plesk license with unlimited domains is installed.
  • The following error is shown in Plesk if trying to create a domain:
    The maximum number of domains allowed has been reached. (Error code 1)

    Or:

    Error: Unable to update domain data: Failed mail post-configuration: Can't create mail domain servie: mail_Facade->createDomain() failed: mailmng failed: Can't create domain. Domain: example.com [example.com]. Reason: Failed to create 'example.com'. The maximum number of domains allowed has been reached. at (SmarterMail::SMDomain::throwDomainError line 630) at execute console command --add-domain(vconsoleapp::start line 132) at execute "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Parallels\\Plesk\\/admin/bin/mailmng" --add-domain "--domain-name=example.com" "--total-disk-quota=-1"(vconsoleapp::run line 143)

Cause

SmarterMail license is not installed, inactive or license limits have been reached.

Resolution

Go to SmarterMail web interface, log in as administrator and make sure that SmarterMail license is installed and mail account limit has not been reached.

Note: by default SmarterMail Free Edition license has the following limits: 1 domain, 10 mailboxes.
