How to replace MariaDB with MySQL on Debian 8

Answer

On your own risk!

  1. Make sure that all of your databases are backed up.

  2. Download MySQL repository config tool

    ~# wget https://dev.mysql.com/get/mysql-apt-config_0.3.7-1debian8_all.deb
  3. Remove MariaDB meta package

    ~# apt-get remove mariadb-server
  4. Add the MySQL repository, select Server -> mysql-5.6 -> Apply

    ~# dpkg -i mysql-apt-config_0.3.7-1debian8_all.deb
  5. Update package information from the MySQL APT repository

    ~# apt-get update
  6. Install MySQL

    ~# apt-get install mysql-server-5.6
