Fail2ban jail activation error: ERROR NOK: (13, 'Permission denied')

Symptoms :

While activating 'plesk-apache' and 'plesk-apache-badbot' jails in fail2ban, the following error appears:

# plesk bin ip_ban --enable-jails 'plesk-apache-badbot'

Cause

SELinux configuration prevents the jails from starting.It is set to enforcing mode:

# sestatus
SELinux status: enabled
SELinuxfs mount: /selinux
Current mode: enforcing
Mode from config file: enforcing
Policy version: 24
Policy from config file: targeted

Resolution

Set SELinux to permissive mode or configure it properly.

# setenforce 0
