Unable to create Let's Encrypt certificate. Failed letsencrypt execution

Symptoms

Unable to create Let's Encrypt certificate for a website. The following error occurs in Plesk web interface:

    Error: Let's Encrypt SSL certificate installation failed: Failed letsencrypt execution: Command '['C:\\\\Program Files (x86)\\\\Parallels\\\\Plesk\\\\admin\\\\bin\\\\filemng', u'userftp', 'mkdir', '-p', u'C:\\\\Inetpub\\\\vhosts\\\\example.com\\\\httpdocs\\\\.well-known/acme-challenge']' returned non-zero exit status 1

Cause

psaadm user is member of Administrators group.

Resolution

  1. Remove psaadm user from Administrators group:
    • Press Win + R on the keyboard
    • Type in compmgmt.msc and click OK
    • Go to Local Users and Groups > Groups > Administrators and right click on Administrators group
    • Choose psaadm user and click Remove
  2. Restart PleskControlPanel application pool under IIS > Application Pools
