Outgoing Antispam Filter cannot be started: Protection is "not active"

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 11.x for Linux
  • Plesk 12.0 for Linux

Important note:

Parallels no longer sells Premium Outgoing Antispam. Please refer to article #213919765 for more information.

Symptoms

The following error is shown on the configuration file of Outgoing Antispam Filter:

Tools & Settings > Outgoing Antispam Filter
--->8---
Protection : Not active. There are some problems that prevent the service from being started.
---8<---

The service cannot be started:

~# /etc/init.d/ctasd_initd status
Parallels Premium Outgoing Antispam is stopped
~# /etc/init.d/ctasd_initd start
Starting Parallels Premium Outgoing Antispam: running ctasd from /opt/ctch/ctasd
Loading configuration file /etc/ctasd/ctasd-out.conf
[ OK ]
~# /etc/init.d/ctasd_initd status
Parallels Premium Outgoing Antispam dead but pid file exists
~#

Why does this occur?

Cause

The "APS. * *" license key for Parallels Premium Outbound Antispam for Unix/Linux is not installed in Parallels Plesk Panel (Plesk). It is missing from the "Additional License Keys" page:

Toosl & Settings > License Management > Additional License Keys

Alternatively, the license key is installed in Plesk, but it is missing from the configuration file of the Commtouch Outbound Spam Protection solution for the Parallels Panel:

~# grep License_key_code /etc/ctasd/ctasd-out.conf
License_key_code = xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
~#

The License_key_code = xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx record is in the default configuration file, which is created during the installation of commtouch-2.0.15. NOTE: This file is not overwritten when you reinstall the package.

Resolution

Install the license key for Parallels Premium Outbound Antispam for Unix/Linux through Plesk. Alternatively, reinstall it using the following menus:

Tools & Settings > License Management > Additional License Keys > APS.*** > Download

Tools & Settings > License Management > Additional License Keys > APS.*** > Upload New Key

This will write the license key entry into the configuration file and allow you to start the service:

~# grep License_key_code /etc/ctasd/ctasd-out.conf
License_key_code = 0002W120B0523X152J06:91GR5G12523N90S65VVS
~#
~# /etc/init.d/ctasd_initd start
Starting Parallels Premium Outgoing Antispam: running ctasd from /opt/ctch/ctasd
Kill previous ctasd daemon, pid=27801
Loading configuration file /etc/ctasd/ctasd-out.conf
[ OK ]
~# /etc/init.d/ctasd_initd status
Parallels Premium Outgoing Antispam (pid 1884) is running...
~#

0002W120B0523X152J06:91GR5G12523N90S65VVS is the encrypted number of your APS.*** license key.
