Resolution

To install ASP.NET 1.1 on Windows 2008 with IIS 7.x, follow these steps:

  1. Open Server Manager , go to Roles → Web Server (IIS) , scroll down, and click on Add Role Services . There, select "IIS Metabase Compatibility" and proceed with the installation.

  2. Download .NET Framework 1.1 , .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 , and ASP.NET Security Update for .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 from the Microsoft website and install them in that order on the server.

  3. In Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager , open the server properties (root node of the tree). In ISAPI and CGI restrictions , select "ASP.NET v1.1.4322" and click "Allow" in the actions pane.

NOTE : If the ASP.NET v1.1 ISAPI extension is not present, add it using the path C:\\Windows\\Microsoft.NET\\Framework\\v1.1.4322\\aspnet_isapi.dll .

  1. Open the file C:\\Windows\\Microsoft.NET\\Framework\\v1.1.4322\\config\\machine.config and add the following section entry at the end of the element, just before the closing tag:

        <section name="system.webServer" type="System.Configuration.IgnoreSectionHandler, System, Version=1.0.5000.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" />
    </configSections>

    Go to Plesk → Tools & Settings → Server Components and hit Refresh to detect ASP.NET 1.1 . Verify that ASP.NET 1.1 is shown in Web Scripting section .

After that ASP.NET 1.1 will become available for use on websites.

Note: The .NET Framework 1.1 is not supported on the Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2016 or the Windows 10 operating systems.
