Horde webmail shows Invalid Address and No Subject instead of correct ones

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.5 for Linux
  • Plesk 11.0 for Linux

Symptoms

  • Some emails are missing in Horde webmail.

  • Horde webmail shows each email with Invalid Address as a sender and [No Subject] as a subject. Moreover, each of those emails are shown to be 0B size.

  • The following error can be found in /var/log/maillog when trying to open one of the emails:

    dovecot: service=imap, user=info@example.com, ip=[::1]. Error: open(/var/qmail/mailnames/example.com/info/Maildir/cur/1232392628.M83239P29551V0000000000000900I006383A5.101,S=46456260:2,S) failed: Permission denied (euid=110(popuser) egid=31(popuser) missing +r perm: /var/qmail/mailnames/example.com/info/Maildir/cur/1232392628.M83239P29551V0000000000000900I006383A5.101,S=46456260:2,S)

Cause

Email has incorrect permissions.

Resolution

  1. Check the permissions of the email from the error:

    # ls -la /var/qmail/mailnames/example.com/info/Maildir/cur/1232392628.M83239P29551V0000000000000900I006383A5.101\\,S\\=46456260\\:2\\,S
    -rw------- 1 root root 4433408 Feb 11 2009 /var/qmail/mailnames/example.com/info/Maildir/cur/1232392628.M83239P29551V0000000000000900I006383A5.101,S=46456260:2,S
  2. Correct the ownership:

    # chown -R popuser:popuser /var/qmail/mailnames/example.com/info/Maildir/cur/*
