Or
Unable to add MS SQL database server to Plesk with the error below:

Error: The test connection to the database server has failed because of network problems:

Try to establish connection failed

Cause

Connection issue, incorrect login/password credentials or login is disabled.

Resolution

  1. Make sure that MS SQL Server and the SQL browser service are running on the server.

  2. Make sure that you can log in to MS SQL server with the same username (usually it is "sa" user) and password that was specified in Plesk > Tools & Settings > Database Servers > MS SQL server . You can check the connection using SQL Server Management Studio. In case the password is incorrect, update it following How to change a password for the `sa` user in MS SQL? KB article.

  3. Ensure that " SQL Server and Windows Authentication mode " and login for the user are enabled.

  4. You should be able to connect to the MS SQL server using the hostname/instance name mentioned in the Plesk > Tools and Settings > Database Servers > MS SQL server

  5. Make sure that 1433 port is opened for MS SQL instance and it is listening on it.

  6. Make sure that the "Named Pipes" connection method is enabled in SQL Server Configuration Manager > Protocols for MS SQL instance.
