How outgoing messages limit works

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.5 for Linux
  • Plesk Onyx for Linux
  • Plesk 12.0 for Linux

What will happen with the messages that are sent above the limit if the limit on outgoing messages from a mailbox is set to 100 per hour?

100 messages will be sent successfully, but starting from 101 message for the same hour Webmail will show the following error:

The following record will appear in /usr/local/psa/var/log/maillog :

/usr/lib64/plesk-9.0/psa-pc-remote[5977]: REJECT during call 'limit-out' handler
postfix/cleanup[7018]: AE16288F80: milter-reject: END-OF-MESSAGE from localhost[::1]: 5.7.0 Your message could not be sent. The limit on the number of allowed outgoing messages was exceeded. Try again later.; from=<user@test.tld> to=<> proto=ESMTP helo=<webmail.test.tld>
postfix/smtpd[7015]: disconnect from localhost[::1]

If Allow scripts and users to use Sendmail option is enabled in Tools & Settings > Mail Server Settings then the system users of the plan's subscriptions will be able to send email messages by using Sendmail even if the limits for a mailbox and domain are exceeded.

The maximum number of messages that scripts can send will be defined by the limit for a corresponding subscription.

Users can use Sendmail through SSH on behalf of a subscription's system user.

You can find more information about limitations on outgoing email messages in Administrator's Guide .
