Containers provided with Parallels Containers software which are based on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP0 can't be upgraded to Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.
Between Service Pack 0 and Service Pack 1 of Windows Server 2008 R2 Microsoft has introduced a number of critical changes, handled by the logic of SP1 installer program. Being unaware of Parallels Containers for Windows, that logic does not provide proper handling of containers upgrade. While normally Parallels Containers for Windows is able to handle such situations with corresponding logic implemented in the product, at this time, after deep investigation, we found no technically feasible solution to perform such upgrade.
We recommend to migrate user data and applications from SP0 containers to SP1 using data migration techniques.
To achieve that, deploy a new container on SP1 platform as a target for the migration. Then, begin with user profile migration as described in Microsoft's Local User and Group Migration Guide . After that, deploy proper set of applications to the target container, and perform application data migration, as described in user guides and knowledge base articles of corresponding applications. Migration procedures for some popular hosting applications are described at:
Other applications should be migrated according to their guides or installed from scratch and reconfigured.
