Symptoms

Getting mail from watchdog about service down.

# tail -f /var/log/wdcollect.log
3600 Jan 29 14:24:25 [notice] Connection to server has been established.
3600 Jan 29 14:25:34 [info] Connection to SMTP server has been closed.
3600 Jan 29 14:29:29 [notice] Connection to server has been established.

Cause

Please note that wdcollect is related to Watchdog module. Watchdog is a module for monitoring Plesk control panel services. When watchdog fails to get a status update from any of the services monitored by it, it assumes that the process is not working and run a restart command for the process. Then it sends a mail to the email address configured. This problem usually occurs due to the connection timeout value set for the service.

Resolution

Review timeout values for the particular affected service via Plesk > Extensions > Watchdog
