Domain is not available: Error establishing a database connection

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.5 for Linux
  • Plesk Onyx for Linux
  • Plesk 12.5 for Windows

Symptoms

  • website main page or WordPress admin page shows the following error:

    Error establishing a database connection
  • A WordPress instance in Domains > example.com > WordPress is shown as /httpdocs and is not accessible. Pointing on exclamation mark shows error:

     Decoding failed: Syntax error
  • the following error can be found in /var/log/mysql/error.log :

    [Note] Access denied for user 'user_name'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

Cause

Password for the WordPress database user specified in wp-config.php does not match the password stored in Plesk.

Resolution

  1. Retrieve the correct password for WordPress database user in Domains > example.com > File Manager > wp-config or in the server directly in /var/www/vhosts/example.com/httpdocs/wp-config.php file.

  2. Set this password for a database user in Domains > example.com > Databases > User Management > open the database user
