Symptoms

Unable to install Plesk updates. The following error message is shown:

ERROR while trying to detect MySQL service name
Check the error reason(see log file: /var/log/plesk/install/plesk_12.5.30_installation.log), fix and try again

OS is Ubuntu.

Cause

/etc/init.d/mysql startup script is missing.

Resolution

  1. Create /etc/init.d/mysql file as in attachment .
  2. Set correct permissions:
    # chmod 755 /etc/init.d/mysql
  3. Make sure that all MySQL packages versions are the same and all of them configured:

    # dpkg -l | grep mysql

If versions are different or packages marked as iU/iFR , configure packages manually:
    dpkg --configure -a
