DNS setting for domain are not transferred to slave DNS server

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.5 for Linux

Symptoms

  1. After removing of domain example.com from Plesk on server1.hosting.com and recreating it on server2.hosting.com Plesk server DNS setting for the domain are not transferred to slave DNS server ns1.nameserver.com .

  2. Both server1.hosting.com , server2.hosting.com use ns1.nameserver.com as slave DNS server through Plesk extension Slave DNS Manager

Cause

There is IP of server1.hosting.com as master is still left in .znf a configuration file on slave DNS server.

Resolution

  1. Connect to the server using SSH.
  2. Check what server IP is being used in .znf the configuration file, e.g.:

    # grep -ir example.com /var/named/
    /var/named/3bf305731dd26307.znf:zone example.com { type slave; file "example.com"; masters { 123.123.123.123; }; };

  3. Modify it and specify IP address of server2.hosting.com instead of IP address of server1.hosting.com:

    # sed -i 's/123.123.123.123/213.123.123.123/' 3bf305731dd26307.znf

  4. Reload named service on ns1.nameserver.com server:

    # service named restart
