Cannot use mailing list with upper case or mixed case: list not found

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.5 for Linux
  • Plesk 11.0 for Linux
  • Plesk 11.5 for Linux
  • Plesk 12.0 for Linux

Symptoms

Cannot use mailing list with uppercase or mixed case. The messages are not delivered and the following entry can be found in /var/log/maillog

postfix/pipe[2182]: 8923B1F68003: to=<list@example.com>, relay=mailman, delay=0.16, delays=0.01/0/0/0.16, dsn=5.3.0, status=bounced (Command died with status 1: "/usr/lib64/plesk-9.0/postfix-mailman". Command output: post script, list not found: SVO_VOs )

Cause

Mailman creates a maillist directory in lowercase on the disk and when it checks for the list existence, it checks in lowercase. "Ru" flag is reset to "R" in /etc/postfix/master.cf . This is Plesk internal issue with ID #PPPM-245 , that is planned to be fixed in future Plesk updates.

Resolution

  1. Change the following line in /etc/postfix/master.cf, from:

    mailman unix - n n - - pipe flags=R user=mailman:mailman argv=/usr/lib/plesk-9.0/postfix-mailman ${nexthop} ${user} ${recipient}

    to:

    mailman unix - n n - - pipe flags=Ru user=mailman:mailman argv=/usr/lib/plesk-9.0/postfix-mailman ${nexthop} ${user} ${recipient}
  2. Restart Postfix.
