Cannot update a DNS zone. The NS record has no address records (A or AAAA).

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.0 for Linux

Symptoms

  • Unable to create/remove a dns-record, when there is NS-record, which does not have A-record.

    "Error: Inconsistent zone "domain.tld": The NS record "domain.tld. IN NS
    ns1.ispdomain.tld." has no address records (A or AAAA).; The NS record
    "domain.tld. IN NS ns2.ispdomain.tld." has no address records (A or AAAA)."
  • the following warning occurs during backup restoration:

    Warning: domain "domain.tld"
    Execution of "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Parallels\\Plesk\\bin\\domain_pref.exe" --update domain.tld -sign_outgoing_mail false -ignore-nonexistent-options failed with return code 1.
    Stderr is
    Inconsistent zone "ostpl.in": The NS record "domain.tld. IN NS ns1.domain.tld." has no address records (A or AAAA).; The NS record "domain.tld. IN NS ns2.domain.tld." has no address records (A or AAAA).

Cause

The issue is caused by internal software issue #PPPM-2352 and fixed in Plesk 12.0.18 MU30 . For more information see Release notes

Resolution

Consider Plesk to be updated to the latest version.
