Backups are not displayed in Backup Manager or Backup Manager cannot be opened.

Symptoms

  1. The backup manager under Tools & Settings - Backup Manager shows no backups, however at least one backup has been created. The following error can be observed in /usr/local/psa/PMM/logs/pmmcli.log :

    == STDERR ====================
    terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::out_of_range'
    what(): basic_string::substr
    ==============================
  2. When trying to open Tools & Settings - Backup Manager the following error appears:

    Error: 'ascii' codec can't encode character u'\\xe1' in position 122: ordinal not in range(128)

    In the %plesk_dir%\\PMM\\logs\\pmmcli.log log the following error appears:

    Transport error: Unable to list dir : boost::filesystem::last_write_time: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process: "E:/pagefile.sys"

Cause

  1. Some custom file in %DUMP_D%/.discovered/ directory, where DUMP_D is a directory where backups are stored. By default it is /var/lib/psa/dumps/ .

  2. Backup directory was changed to disk E where swap file was created.

Resolution

  1. a) Identify the unwanted file by executing

    # /usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/pmm-ras --get-dump-list --verbose --debug
    ............................
    [07:49:03|INFO: 2096:p.log] Transport: Check exist file /var/lib/psa/dumps//.discovered/_admin: True
    terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::out_of_range'
    what(): basic_string::substr
    Aborted

    The last file which is checked before error appearing is unwanted file which should be moved or removed.

    b) Delete this file or move it out from .discovered directory, not just rename it.

  2. a) Create another directory in disk E

    b) Change backup directory location from E:\\ to E:\\another_directory\\

Note %DUMP_D%.discovered directory should not contain any manually created files or directories, it should contain files and directories only created by Plesk backup manager.
