Unable to install an applicaion in Plesk on Windows: Unable to extract archive to directory

Symptoms

  • An attempt to install Magento application on Windows server fails with the following error:

    Error: Installation of magento at http://example.com/magento failed. Unable to extract archive to directory 'C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Parallels\\Plesk\\var\\apspackages\\apsF9E.tmp.zip9253cee7-9e31-05d3-f88\\cache'
  • TYPO3 CMS cannot be installed from the Applications list to Plesk default folder. The following errors appear:

    Installation of typo3 at http://example.com/typo3 failed. Unable to extract archive to directory 'C:\\\\Program Files\\\\Parallels\\\\Plesk\\\\/var/apspackages\\\\aps1B9.tmp.zip31d69e05-7665-3e45-678\\\\cache'

    PHP Warning: ZipArchive::extractTo(): Full extraction path exceed MAXPATHLEN (260)

Cause

This is Plesk internal issue with id #PPPM-1663 that is caused by maximum Windows file path length exceedance. It has been fixed in microupdate #27 .

Resolution

Apply the latest Plesk microupdates .
