<need rework>How to change password for a mail account

Information

In Parallels Plesk Panel 10, you find that the password field is missing for a mail account. It is not possible to set a new password because the mailbox is associated with the user account.

Here is a description of what happens:

There are two types of mailboxes in Parallels Plesk Panels.

  1. The mailbox associated with the user account is created along with the user account.

    Home -> Domains -> domain.tld -> Users -> Create user account

    At this step, you specify the e-mail address (which is also used as a username for logging into the Control Panel) and the password for it.

    E-mail addresses assigned to user accounts operate with user account passwords. The password for such mailboxes can be changed in the user properties screen:

    Home -> Domains -> domain.tld -> Users -> user@domain.tld -> Change Settings

  2. The mailboxes which are not assigned to a user account are created in the following way:

    Home -> Domains -> domain.tld -> Mail -> Create Email address

    The password for such mailboxes can be changed in the mailbox properties screen:

    Home -> Domains -> domain.tld -> Mail -> email@domain.tld

    You can easily determine if the mailbox is associated with the user account:

    Home -> Domains -> domain.tld -> Mail If 'User' field is empty then the mailbox is 'standalone' and not associated with any user account.
