Cannot send mail using MailEnable: 503 bad sequence of commands

Symptoms

Cannot send any mail to MailEnable server. When trying to send a mail, 503 Bad sequence of commands error appears on EHLO command.

telnet <server_ip> 25
HELO example.com
EHLO
503 bad sequence of commands

Cause

EHLO command is not enabled in Allowed SMTP commands list

Resolution

1. Open MailEnable Administration console and navigate to Servers > localhost > Connectors > SMTP

2. Right click on SMTP and select Properties , then navigate to the Advanced SMTP tab

3. Enable EHLO under Allowed SMTP Commands
