MailEnable unable to send email to an external email address

Symptoms

Unable to send email to an external email address.

The following error can be seen in the SMTP logs ( "%plesk_dir%\\Mail Servers\\Mail Enable\\Logging\\SMTP" ):

The socket connection to the remote host failed. The host was either not contactable or it rejected your connection.
It may be that this server is offline or that you are redirecting Spam to this server and you have been blacklisted. To determine who is redirecting mail to this domain, you should use the Redirection Query Utility. See Also: KB: ME020207.

Cause

MailEnable was not configured properly:

  • SMTP properties under the Mailenable console were set incorrectly.
  • The DNS server IP was not in the Mailenable SMTP settings.

Resolution

  1. Open MailEnable > expand Servers > locaclhost > Services and Connectors > right-click on SMTP > Properties and make sure that the following fields are filled in correctly using valid data:

    • Local Domain Name
    • Host name (optional)
    • DNS Address
    • Specify the email address when sending notifications.

Please refer to the MailEnable Configuration Guide for a detailed description of each of the above fields.

  2. Restart MailEnable services when all settings are configured: Tools & Settings > Services Management > check Mail Server > Restart
