drweb-update cron task finishes with a permission error

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 11.5 for Linux

Symptoms

The following errors are reported after cron task /etc/cron.daily/drweb-update is launched on the server with Debian 7 OS installed:

error: skipping "/var/drweb/log/updater.log" because parent directory has
insecure permissions (It's world writable or writable by group which is not "root")
Set "su" directive in config file to tell logrotate which user/group should be used for rotation.

error: skipping "/var/drweb/log/drwebd.log" because parent directory has
insecure permissions (It's world writable or writable by group which is not "root")
Set "su" directive in config file to tell logrotate which user/group should be used for rotation.

Cause

Wrong logrotate configuration.

Resolution

Edit /etc/logrotate.d/drwebd and /etc/logrotate.d/drweb-update , adding these lines into each file before closing curly bracket '}':

su drweb drweb
create 0644 drweb drweb

After it, the files' configuration section should look this way:

/var/drweb/log/drwebd.log {
missingok
compress
rotate 7
daily
su drweb drweb
create 0644 drweb drweb
}
