Multiple issues after upgrade Plesk to 12.5 on CentOS/RHEL/CloudLinux 5 and 6

Symptoms

On a Plesk 12.5 server with nginx enabled, one or more of the the following occurs:

  • Fail2ban bans IP addresses belonging to the server.
  • The web statistics data shows that all visits to websites are from local IP addresses.
  • The Apache access logs contain the Plesk server IP instead of the actual IP address of the visitor.
  • The $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR']; variable in your PHP code returns the IP address of the Plesk server instead of the actual IP address of the visitor.

Cause

During the upgrade to Plesk 12.5 the mod_rpaf Apache module was disabled.

Resolution

This issue was fixed in Plesk 12.5.30 MU #7. If you upgraded to Plesk 12.5 before the microupdate was released, you can enable the module manually. Run the following command:

# plesk sbin httpd_modules_ctl --enable rpaf

to enable the module and resolve the issue.
